Results

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed against Ithaca College on Saturday afternoon with both falling to the visiting Bombers.

Noah Koltenuk (Danville, PA/Danville) got the first Saxon win of the day as he took first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:12.78, a commanding 10+ seconds faster than the rest of the pool. Immediately following Koltenuk's race, senior Kristin Brown (Olean, NY/Olean) picked up a huge win in the 200 freestyle as she was first to the wall in a neck-and-neck finish against Ithaca's Maura Beuttel and Genny Tripler. Triple took third with a 2:08.15 while Beuttel had a 2:07.82. Brown won with a 2:07.81!

"Both the men and women swam very well being that we are at the end of our final training cycle before we head into our taper," Head Coach Brian Striker said. "Our divers continue to make improvements as they fine tune their lists for championships. I am excited, as there are many great things happening despite the workload that I have given them recently. I am looking forward to the homestretch of our season as we prepare for the Empire 8 Championships!"

First-year Lauren Serotta (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) won her 100 backstroke with a strong 1:03.56 and was immediately followed by Andy Edmister (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley Central) in the men's race who won with a 55.21. Edmister then won his 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:59.45. The 200 back was the only race where Alfred University had first and second as senior Alec Toth (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) followed with a 2:02.19, edging Ithaca's Marshall Hendlin and his 2:03.60.

Koltenuk got the final individual win in the lanes as he won the 500 free with a 4:56.36. Junior Christopher Deaver (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) won the 3-meter diving with a score of 290.10

11353Saturday was the Alfred University Saxons' Senior Day. In pre-meet ceremonies, Coach Striker introduced and everyone celebrated the women's five seniors, Brown, Elizabeth Finney (Dryden, NY/Dryden), Jordan Little (Odessa, NY/Odessa-Montour), Elizabeth Schiffhauer (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) and Megan Steen (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth) and the men's six seniors, Derek Ciraolo (Grand Island, NY/St. Joseph's), Michael Guarglia (Hornell, NY/Hornell), Joseph Lawrence (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence), Jeramy Rosado (Rochester, NY/Hilton), Toth and Jason Zeames (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter).
