Jake Lynch (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) was selected as the Empire 8 Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Lynch and the Saxons had a 1-1 week with a road win over Oswego State, 16-12, and the home loss to Stevens. While at Oswego, Lynch scored his first two goals within four minutes of each other in the first quarter. His second score (at 5:11 and unassisted) broke the school record in career goals with 128. The previous was 127 held by Dylan Macro (2011-04). Lynch totaled five goals in the outing and added one assist for six points. He scored the game-winner in the contest and posted a season-high two man-up goals. His weekly total was seven goals and one assist for eight points. Defensively, Lynch caused a turnover in both contests as well as retrieve three ground balls in both events.
Monday's announcement marks the third time in the 2017 season that the preseason All-American was selected as the Empire 8 Player of the Week. The first of the season was when he scored nine goals in a game against SUNY Canton which tied the school record for most in a game. Lynch then earned Player of the Week for his performance during the Saxons' spring training trip to Maryland and Virginia where he totaled 11 points from six assists and five goals.
Lynch and the Saxons will next take on the Hawks of Hartwick College on Saturday, April 1 for a 1:00 pm Empire 8 matchup.
