Seth Spicer (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) of the Alfred University track and field team was named the Empire 8 Indoor Men's Field Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Spicer won the heptathlon at the Brockport Early Season Invitational on Friday and Saturday by almost 1,000 points. He defeated opponents from The College at Brockport, Alfred State College and Division II Roberts Wesleyan College. Spicer finished the event with 4,726 points. Out of the seven events, Spicer finished in the top spot (out of all collegiate competitors – one unattached who only competed in the 60-meters) in five of them. Spicer's top event was the 1,000-meter run where he earned a meet-high 769 points with his time of 2:49.63. He then decimated the field in the 60-meter hurdles, claiming 752 points with a time of 8.97 with the next highest competitor earning 576 points on a time of 9.82. His final event of 700 or more points was in the 60-meter dash where he picked up 723 points with a time of 7.47. He earned a personal best in the high jump with a height of 1.85 meters (670 points and first place) and neared personal bests in the 1,000, the 60 dash and 60 hurdles and was 244 points off his personal best and school record in total score.
Spicer and the Saxons will next head to the Houghton College December Classic on Friday, December 8 for a 4PM start time.
