ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's swimming and diving team fell in its season-opener to Rochester Institute of Technology 222-75 on Saturday morning in Lebohner Pool.

The Saxons were led by senior
Kristin Brown (Olean, NY/Olean) who won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.11. First-year
Lauren Serotta (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) had a great collegiate debut as she finished second in both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke races with times of 1:03.58 and 2:18.42, respectively. Her and Brown teamed with first-year
Cassidy Jeche (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) and senior
Elizabeth Schiffhauer (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) in the 200-yard freestyle relay to finish third with a 1:49.15.
"The women had a great first meet, our first-year swimmers made an immediate impact," Head Coach
Brian Striker said. "Despite the loss, we are pretty happy with our results as we keep them in perspective with our goals."

Olivia Piazza (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) took second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:17.78 and then finished with a 2:53.55 in the 200-yard breast to earn third place. Senior
Jordan Little (Odessa, NY/Odessa-Montour) and first-year
Gina Artieri (Lockport, NY/Lockport) joined in on the group of Alfred University swimmers who earned a second place finish when Little raced to a 2:44.99 in the 200-yard butterfly and Artieri finished the 1,000-yard freestyle in 12:06.68.

Zeruviah Adams (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) took two third place finishes in the 50-yard free (27.10) and the 100-yard fly (1:07.07). Other third place finishers were Artieri in the 500 free (5:56.32), Schiffhauer in the 100 free (1:01.61), senior
Megan Steen (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth) in the 200 back (2:23.89) and sophomore
Victoria Cramp (Hornell, NY/Hornell) on the 3-meter diving board (170.35).

The Saxons will next head to Rochester, NY to face Nazareth College in a dual meet on Friday, October 27 at 6 pm.
