ALFRED, NY -- Alfred University men's lacrosse's sophomore goalkeeper Drew Gardner (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) was named the Empire 8 Goalie of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Gardner helped the Saxons top The College at Brockport on Sunday afternoon, 10-6. The sophomore had 16 saves off of the 22 shots that were on target (43 total shots faced). The performance topped last year's personal best of 14 saves which was exactly a year ago also against Brockport (02.28.16).

Gardner also assisted on the second-to-last goal of the game with 26 second left to freshman Joe Fornataro (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena). He is 2-0 on the season.

The Saxons will next head south for their Myrtle Beach, SC Spring Break training trip where they will first square off with Emmanuel College on Monday, March 7 at 1:00 pm.
