BRADFORD, PA – The Alfred University women's swimming and diving team earned its first dual meet victory of the 2016-17 season Friday evening, topping host Pitt-Bradford 95-54. With the win, AU improved to 1-2 in dual meets.
Senior
Leah Zimmerman (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua), junior
Megan Steen (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth) and senior
Samantha Brown (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) each won two events to pace a Saxon team that earned eight individual events overall.
Zimmerman won the 200 free (2:13.91) and 100 free (1:00.87); Steen won the 200 IM (2:28.85) and 200 backstroke (2:22.71); and Brown won 200 butterfly (2:24.62) and 200 breaststroke (2:49.47).
Other event winners for AU were: junior
Kristin Brown (Olean, NY/Olean) in the 50 free (26.91) and senior
Faith Lanfear (Port Crane, NY/Chenango Valley) in the 500 free (6:02.12). Lanfear also took second in the 1,650 free (19:59.71), while Brown also placed second in the 100 free (1:01.13).
Other top swimmers for the Saxons included: sophomore
Caroline Burgos (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional), second in the 200 free (2:18.47) and 500 free (6:15.02); sophomore
Olivia Piazza (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), second in the 50 free (27.88); junior
Elizabeth Schiffhauer (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East), second in the 200 IM (2:31.85); junior
Jordan Little (Odessa, NY/Odessa-Montour), second in the 200 butterfly (2:44.77).
AU took first in both relays. The team of freshman
Ally Mitchell (Randolph, NY/Randolph), Samantha Brown, Schiffhauer and
Kristin Brown won the 400 medley relay (4:41.44), while Lanfear, Mitchell, Steen and Zimmerman won the 400 free relay (4:14.18).
AU is in action next on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m., when the Saxons host a tri-meet with Rochester and Fredonia.
