ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team's freshman Drew Gardner (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) was selected as the Empire 8 Goalie of the Week Monday afternoon.
 
Gardner earned his spot on the Empire 8 weekly honors for his performance down in Myrtle Beach, SC where he picked up the wins in all three of the Saxon contests. Those wins came against Hilbert College, United States Merchant Marine Academy and Emmanuel College. The three-game stay during Alfred's spring break earned him a .618 save percentage from his 34 saves and 21 allowed goals.
 
The collegiate rookie started his post-high school career with a win against Brockport back on February 28 in the Saxons' season and home-opener. Gardner made an incredible save to earn the 9-8 win on the last shot of the game.
 
Gardner owns all the wins in goal for the Saxons this season, making him and his team 4-0 as they settle in for a week of lacrosse starting with Empire 8 foe, Houghton College on Tuesday, March 17 at 4:00 pm at Yunevich Stadium.
 
The Saxons will then host SUNYIT on Wednesday, March 18 at 5:00 pm and then Keuka College on Saturday, March 21 at 1:00 pm.
