Race of the WeekALFRED, NYÂ -- The Alfred University women's swimming and diving claimed its first dual meet victory of the 2015-16 season with a 117-55 win over visiting Pitt-Bradford Saturday afternoon in Lebohner Pool.

The Saxons (1-4) won earned first place wins in nine events outside of exhibition. They got things rolling with a 2:04.38 win in the 200 medley relay from the team of
Megan Steen (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth),
Kelsey McRill (Solon, OH/Solon), Samantha Brown (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) and
Elizabeth Finney (Dryden, NY/Dryden).

Steen then had a standout performance in the 100 yard backstroke. She finished just ahead of Pitt-Bradford's Ava Young with a time of 1:06.49. Young reached the pad in 1:07.29. Steen's time is just under two seconds away from breaking her career best in the event but it is still a season-best. She rounded out her performance with a first place win in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:13.41 which is a career-best, beating her old time of 2:13.88 (Ithaca College invite, 12.05.14).

Dylan Staniszewski (Oakton, VA/Oakton) earned her first win of the day in her first event, the 200 yard individual medley. She finished with a time of 2:15.49, retiring her old personal best of 2:19.71 (AU vs. Ithaca 01.11.14). She finished over 15 seconds faster than the rest of the field. She then went on to win the 100 yard freestyle (54.95) and helped
Liz Schiffhauer (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East),
Olivia Piazza (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and
Leah Zimmerman (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) swim an exhibition time of 1:47.40 in the 200 yard freestyle relay.

Brown not only helped claim victory in the 200 medley relay, but she later went on to edge out Pitt-Bradford's Ann Confer with a time of 1:06.54 over 1:06.60 in the 100 yard buffterfly. Her new time now sits atop of her all-time career list for the 100 fly. She toppled her older career-best of 1:07.16 (UNYSCSA Championships, 02.19.14). Brown ended her day with a 1:18.78 in the 100 yard breaststroke. The time was yet another collegiate career best, beating the 1:20.74 (AU vs Nazareth, 10.19.12) and was just 0.14 seconds ahead of McRill. Both swimmers were racing exhibition in the 100 breast.

The Saxons will next prepare for and then compete at the Ithaca College Invitational, starting on Friday, December 4 and ending on Sunday, December 6.
