Pioneers outlast Saxons, 9-4

Box Score ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team suffered a 9-4 loss to visiting Utica College, Saturday afternoon in conference play.  
           
The Saxons got out to a 4-2 lead at halftime, outscoring the Pioneers 2-1 in the first and second quarters.
           
Utica picked up the offense in the second half by outshooting AU, 19-13, and scoring seven unanswered goals to take the lead two minutes inside the fourth quarter.
           
Senior defender Pat Walsh (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon-St. Jude), senior midfielder Derek Green (Pittsburgh, PA/Kiski School), junior attack Nicolas Wood (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) and junior midfielder Fred Crilly (Rochester, NY/Penfield) each netted a goal in the first half of play.
           
Senior defender Chris Tauterouff (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) picked up five ground balls and caused a turnover for the Saxon defense.  
           
Freshman midfielder Jimmy Pratti (Minisink, NY/Minisink Valley) won nine of 17 face-offs and scooped up three groundballs.
          
Junior goalie Cody O'Connor (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) made 11 saves during 60 minutes of play.
           
AU (4-6, 1-3 Empire 8) continues Empire 8 play against St. John Fisher College on Saturday, April 9, at 4 p.m.
