Saxon women’s swimming and diving falls to Nazareth in season opener

PITTSFORD, NY — The Alfred University women's swimming and diving team opened the 2013-14 season with a 128-106 loss at Nazareth Saturday afternoon.

The Saxons got two individual event wins from sophomore Carly Watson (Hyde Park, NY/FDR), freshman Dylan Staniszewski (Oakton, VA/Oakton) and senior Cassie Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood).

Watson won the 200-meter individual medley (2:36.23) and 100-meter butterfly (1:10.66); Staniszewski took the 200-meter freestyle (2:18.13) and 400-meter freestyle (4:48.69); and Brown swept the diving events, scoring 211.19 on the 3-meter board and 197.55 on the 1-meter board.

Junior Chrissy Behr (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) was Alfred's other event winner, taking the 100-meter backstroke in 1:11.29.

The team of Behr, freshman Kylee Proudfit (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic), Watson and sophomore Kelsey McRill (Solon, OH/Solon) won the 200-meter medley relay (2:08.82).

Alfred is in action next on Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. at RIT.
