ALFRED, NY – Alfred University's
Zion Baitey (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) was named the Field Athlete of the Week by the Empire 8 on Monday for outdoor track & field.
Baitey took home two Top-10 finishes at the Coach P Invite, hosted by Moravian University on Saturday. His top finish was fifth place in the long jump, hitting a personal record jump of 6.91m (22'-8"), moving him from No. 3 to No. 2 in AU's all-time record book. He bested his personal best of 6.85m (22'-5.75") set in 2024 and his in-season best distance of 6.71m (22'-0.25") set at the Geneseo Early Season Invite. Baitey surpassed
Chris Lopez '13 and his senior year jump of 6.89m (22'-7.25") set at Muhlenberg to take the No. 2 spot from him. He also took seventh place in the triple jump with a mark of 13.96m (45'-9.75") on Saturday. His long jump moved him to third in the Empire 8 as he still holds the No. 1 in conference for his triple jump of 14.05m (46'-1.25") set at the Geneseo meet.
Baitey was joined in the E8 listings by
Bella Mistretta (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield Secondary) as the Softball Player of the Week and
Anlun Zwerver (Koog Aan De Zaan, The Netherlands/Blaise Pascal College) and
Ricardo Alvarez Janik (La Orotava, Spain/Colegio Casa Azul) as the Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week.
