BETHLEHEM, PA - The Alfred University men's track & field team competed in the Coach Pollard Invitational on Friday, April 17th and Saturday, April 18th.
Zion Baitey (Morristown, NJ, Morristown) put together an excellent performance in the long jump, beating his previous best of 6.85 meters (22'-5.75") with a mark of 6.91 meters (22'-8"). Baitey's fifth-place finish ranks second in program history and is behind
Winston Strachan's
all-time best of 7.31m (23'-11.75") set in 1976.
Seth Stevens (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) finished second place in the 3,000-steeple chase. Stevens clocked 9:52.42, a new personal best time.
In the high jump, Sekou Camara (Conakry, Guinea, ICSA) cleared an impressive 1.88 meters (6'-2"), matching his current personal best. Camara took second place out of the 17 competitors.
The Saxons saw another impressive performance on the track when a team of
Riley Ciamarra (Cortlandt Manor, NY, Walter Panas), Jonathan Hodges (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West), Khamani Hunter (Poughkeepsie, NY/FDR), and Finnegan Dean (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam Central) clocked a 3:22.35 in the 4x400 relay, placing fifth out of 29 teams.
In the triple jump, Baitey recorded another impressive mark for AU as he jumped 13.96 meters (45'-9.5"), finishing in seventh place.
Hunter raced the 100-meter dash with a personal best time of 11.03. Hunter placed 13th out of 67 athletes.
Friday opened the two-day weekend for the Saxons, when a 14
th place finish was recorded by
Daimel Fowler (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker) in the shot put. Fowler's best mark measured 13.10 meters (42'-11.5") against the competition field of 46 athletes.
Hodges crossed the line at 49.94 in the 400-meter dash, ranking him 15th out of 62 total competitors. A few places behind was Ciamarra who clocked a 50.65.
In the 1,500-meter run, Dean ran a new personal record of 4:10.28, 16th out of 46 total runners.
"This weekend at the Moravian University Coach P invitational, our student-athletes on both the men's and women's teams showed up and held their own against some very good teams," Assistant Coach
David Brannigan said.
"Personal bests occurred throughout all the event groups, which is a direct result of the hard work they have all put in this season. As a program we are gearing up for a phenomenal conference meet in a couple of weeks."
The Saxon's will next compete at St. John Fisher University for the 2026 Cardinal Classic. The two-day meet will be held on Friday, April 24th and Saturday, April 25th.
