BROCKPORT, NY / LEWISBURG, PA – The Alfred University men's track & field team sent athletes into two different states to compete over the weekend with the larger group going to the SUNY Brockport Multi & Invitational and the other group going to the larger meet, the Bison Classic hosted by Bucknell University in Pennsylvania.
Khamani Hunter Sr (Poughkeepsie, NY/FDR) led the way as he had two Top-5 finishes on Sunday at SUNY Brockport. His top finish was his 22.46 that earned him an overall second place finish out of the field of 58 sprinters. He led
Riley Ciamarra (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) and
Jonathan Hodges (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) as the other two Saxons who finished in the Top-20 in the event. Ciamarra finished sixth with a personal best time of 22.79 and Hodges took 16
th with a 23.35, also earning a personal record for both outdoor and indoor for the distance.
Hunter also ran a personal record in the 400-meter dash, clocking a time of 50.52 to win his heat and finish in fourth place overall out of 37 runners.
Aidan Bieron (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore West) found a spot in the Top-20 with his time of 54.19.
"It was a good weekend for the Saxons. I am very proud of how everyone stepped up these past few days," Head Coach
Matt Phillips '10 said. "With several more weeks left before championships, we just need to focus on the day-to-day actions. If we continue to put together weeks like this, the results will continue to flow."
David Winchebach (Jefferson, ME/Lincoln Academy) also competed at the Brockport Multi & Invitational in the decathlon. He competed in the 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400-meter dash on Sunday. On Monday, he competed in the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500-meter run. In total, he scored 4,636 points to finish 14th with his highest-scoring event being 694 points in the 110-hurdles and 622 points in the 100-meter dash.
In Pennsylvania,
Zion Baitey (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) competed on Saturday, finishing 23
rd in the long jump with a distance of 6.23m (20'-5.25").
Finnegan Dean (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam Central) ran the 800-meter run, clocking a personal best time of 1:54.95.
Zach Schultz (Middleport, NY/Royalton-Hartland) ran on Sunday, finishing the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.24, nearly breaking his previous collegiate personal record by a full second (59.22).
"This weekend was a great learning experience for the athletes," Assistant Head Coach
Sierra Wilson '22 said. "Whether it was focusing on a new race strategy, or adapting to a different environment, this meet was a great atmosphere to be in."
The Saxons will next head to Bethlehem, PA for a two-day meet at Moravian University on Friday and Saturday, April 17 and 18 with Friday's meet starting at 1:00pm and Saturday's starting at 10:00am.
