HOUGHTON, NY – The Alfred University men's track & field team competed in its final tune-up before Championships at the Houghton Last Chance Conference Qualifier on Saturday.
Jonathan Hodges (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) won the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.16 to lead the way for the Saxons.
Aidan Bieron (Bufalo, NY/Kenmore West) and
Jacob Taylor (Cohocton, NY/Avoca) finished first and third in the 600-meter dash. Bieron ran a 1:28.23 and Taylor clocked a 1:33.05.
"Great day today. Happy with what this team has been able to accomplish this season, especially being as young as they are," Head Coach
Matt Phillips '10 said. "We now look forward to entering the championship season with the athletes who have qualified for Empire 8 and The All-Atlantic Regionals."
Evan Foran (Vestal, NY/Vestal) and
Damian Brown (Homer, NY/Homer) finished sixth and eighth, respectively to open Saturday's events in the 5K. Foran ran a 17:20.06 while Brown crossed the finish line in 18:23.79.
Zach Schultz (Middleport, NY/Royalton-Hartland),
Davion Douglas (Cheektowaga, NY/Cleveland Hill) and
John Requis Wilcox (Canton, NY/Hugh C Williams) qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles and finished third, fourth and sixth. Schultz ran an 8.99, Douglas followed with a 9.63 and Wilcox recorded a time of 10.11.
Riley Ciamarra (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.30 to close out the track events for the Saxons on Saturday.
Sekou Camara (Conakry, Guinea/ICSA) led the field events with a second place finish in the high jump. He cleared both of his first entered heights on his first attempts. His final height clearing was at 1.83m (6'-0").
Donovan Blackman (Bowie, MD/Sandy Spring Friends) followed with a fifth place tying at 1.70m (5'-7"). Blackman also finished eighth in the long jump, reaching 6.05m (19'-10.25") on his first attempt.
Carter Buckman (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) and
David Winchenbach (Jefferson, ME/Lincoln Academy) finished fourth and fifth in the pole vault. Buckman cleared 3.30m (10'-10") and Winchenbach marked at 2.85m (9'-4.25").
In the throws,
Daimel Fowler (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker) finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 13.36m (43'-10") on his first attempt. He also took eighth in the weight throw with a toss of 11.90m (39'-0.5") on his third attempt.
The Saxons will next take on the two-day Empire 8 Indoor Track & Field Championships at Nazareth University on Friday, February 27 at noon and Saturday, February 28 at 9:00am.
