ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University women's cross country team finished 14
th at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational on Saturday morning, hosted by Roberts Wesleyan University.
The Saxons were led by
Sydney Ribble (Addison, NY/Addison) who scored 64 points in 104
th place with a time of 21:36.0. All but one of the top finishers for Alfred University were all first-year students as sophomore
Alivia Kocan (Hornell, NY/Arkport Central) was the second runner to cross with a time of 21:48.8.
Vladyslava Makarenko (Berdychiv, Ukraine/Lyceum 23),
Nyah Allen (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) and
Rain Newton (Phelps, NY/Midlakes) were all first-year runners to round out the top-five finishers for AU, crossing the finish line with times of 22:08.7, 23:20.9 and 23:22.5, respectively.
First-years
Morgan Brinkmann (Manchester, MO/Parkway South) and
Vivian Crane (Branchport, NY/Avoca) as well as sophomore
Mahina Elchibekova (Ishkoshim, Gorno-Badakhshan, Tajikistan/I.Ismailov School #21/Middlebury Union) all had good runs, crossing the finish line one after the other as a pack, clocking in times of 23:50.5, 23:53.9 and 23.58.0, respectively.
"The women had a tough week of workouts. This is a young squad but they continue to rise to the occasion," Head Coach
Matt Phillips '10 said. "Last week was their first 6k of the season, today was their first 5k, and after a week off next weekend it'll be back to 6k for them. Despite so many firsts, they have been taking it in stride."
The Saxons will next compete at Houghton University on Saturday, October 11.
