Women's Cross Country Finishes 25th at Aubrey Shenk Invite

GETTYSBURG, PA – The Alfred University women's cross country team finished 25th out of 33 teams during the 6K race of the Aubrey Shenk Invitational, hosted by Gettysburg College on Saturday afternoon.

The Saxons were paced by a pair of first-years who finished neck-and-neck with each other. Sydney Ribble (Addison, NY/Addison) clocked a time of 25:37.90 to finish 140th and scored 112 points while Vladyslava Makarenko (Berdychiv, Ukraine/Lyceum 23) was just behind with a time of 25:38.70.

Alivia Kocan (Hornell, NY/Arkport Central) wasn't far behind the pair as she crossed the finish line with a time of 26:33.40. "Very proud of the team today. Today's course was tougher than last week's, but we still had season bests and personal bests for both the men and women. They continue to see the results of their hard work," Head Coach Matt Phillips '10 said. "It is now just two weeks until Empire 8 Championships, and I believe these past couple of competitions have helped to build their confidence and we are in a great place to have a fantastic race! Very excited for what's to come with these young teams."

Morgan Brinkmann (Manchester, MO/Parkway South) crossed the finish line fourth for the Saxons with a time of 28:02.60 and Rain Newton (Phelps, NY/Midlakes) closed out the top five scorers with a time of 28:06.70, just behind Brinkmann and a runner from Waynesburg.

The Saxons will next travel to St. John Fisher University for the 2025 Empire 8 Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 1.
