BROCKPORT, NY – The Alfred University women's cross country team finished sixth out of the seven collegiate teams competing in the SUNY Brockport Tom Balon Alumni Classic 5K on Saturday morning.
The Saxons were led by Vladyslava Makarenko (Berdychiv, Ukraine/Lyceum 23) who took 19
th overall with a time of 21:01.1, scoring 18 team points. Sydney Ribble (Addison, NY/Addison) and Jovie Riley (Bakersfield, CA/Stockdale) were the next Saxons to cross the finish line. Ribble ran a 23:23.9 for 37 team points and Riley was close behind with a time of 23:30.4 for 39 points.
Morgan Brinkmann (Manchester, MO/Parkway South) and Vivian Crane (Branchport, NY/Avoca) rounded out the team scoring less than five seconds apart. Brinkmann clocked 24:59.7 for 47 points and Crane earned 48 points with a finish of 25:04.6.
"Today was a great rust-buster for the team where our focus was on honing our routine, mental strength and race strategy," Assistant Head Coach
Gabriel Trimbur said. "We had some fantastic performances from newcomers that bolstered our overall team confidence and both teams are demonstrating their dedication to the long term goals we've established. We're ready to do it again soon!"
The Saxons finished with a total of 189 team points (factoring in the Brockport Alumni team) ahead of Alfred State College and their 225 team points.
Alfred University will next return to the Rochester area, running in the Harry F. Anderson Invitational, hosted by Roberts Wesleyan University on Saturday, September 26 at 11:00am.
