ROCHESTER, NY -- The Alfred University women's cross country team ran at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan University on Saturday morning, finishing 15th out of the 18 total teams competing.
"Both squads executed their race plans to great success," Head Coach
Matt Phillips '10 said. "The women's team time was two and a half minutes faster with their average time being 31 seconds faster than last time. Our top runner (Vlada) helped lead this squad to multiple personal bests."
The top finisher for the Saxons was
Vladyslava Makarenko (Berdychiv, Ukraine/Lyceum 23) who scored 64 points with a time of 20:32.5.
Jovie Riley (Bakersfield, CA/Stockdale) and
Sydney Ribble (Addison, NY/Addison) once again were neck-and-neck with their finishing times. Riley clocked a 21:51.3 and Ribble ran a 21:53.9.
Morgan Brinkmann (Manchester, MO/Parkway South) and
Mahina Elchibekova (Ishkoshim, Tajikistan/I.Ismailov School #21/Middlebury Union) each ran sub-23 as Brinkmann crossed the finish line with a time of 22:31.7 and Elchibekova finished with a 22:53.1.
"The teams had a spread of 2:18 for the men and 2:20 for the women," Coach Phillips said. "Happy to be under three minutes at this point in the season. Very good day today!"
The Saxons will next compete in the Kara Hall Memorial Invitational on Friday, October 2 at 11:00am hosted by Fredonia. The course is also the location of this year's NCAA Division III Niagara Regional Championships as well as the designated Alfred Cup matchup against Alfred State College.
