BROCKPORT, NY – The Alfred University men's track and field team competed on day one of the Empire 8 Outdoor Championships at SUNY Brockport on Friday.
Neil Peters (The Bronx, NY/DeWitt Clinton) raced in the prelims of the 100-meter dash. He crossed the finish line on a personal best time of 11.02 seconds to earn second in his heat and claim the final spot in the top eight to advance to the finals. Peters will race in the finals tomorrow.
The Saxons ran in the 4x800-meter relay, registering sixth on a time of 8:22.21. Representing Alfred University in the event were
Jacob Taylor (Cohocton, NY/Avoca),
Jonathan Hodges (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West),
Finnegan Dean (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam Central) and
Yuner Sesmas (Apollo, PA/Kiski Area).
Meanwhile,
Damian Brown (Homer, NY/Homer) competed in the 3000-meter steeplechase for the second time in his career. He shaved off 4.83 seconds to finish with a personal best time of 11:00.20.
"Today was a great start to our E8 Championships," Head Coach
Matt Phillips '10 said. "Once the wind died down, it was a beautiful day for some high level competition. We had some great performances and some unexpected podium finishes, which we hope to continue tomorrow."
The Saxons get ready for day two at the E8 Championships on Saturday at 10:00 AM.
