ALFRED, NY – Two members of the Alfred University men's tennis team were selected to the Empire 8 All-Conference Team on Monday.
Breece Erickson (Goshen, IN/Bethany Christian) and
Ricardo Alvarez Janik (La Orotava, Spain/Colegio Casa Azul) were named to the All-Empire 8 Second Team for singles. Both players receive postseason accolades for the first time in their careers.
Erickson improved his win count with a team-leading seven this season. He notched four wins at No. 2 singles and three at No. 1 singles. Erickson is the first Saxon to have seven or more victories since
Wes Dennison notched eight in 2021.
Janik went 5-4 overall at No. 1 singles in his first season with Alfred University. He had a four-game winning streak from March 13 to April 2. During that run, Janik registered E8 wins at Nazareth University and Houghton University.
In addition, Erickson was also named an E8 Sportsman of the Year. The league emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission.
"I am so proud of these guys," Head Coach
Jake Fisler said. "They have done a great job of taking the work we do in practice and maximizing that in competition. The future is extremely bright for these two and I can't wait to see them continue to be successful on and off the court. We are thankful to have them be a part of the program and to represent AU tennis in such a good light."
