ALFRED, NY -- The Alfred University Men's Lacrosse team played its first home Empire 8 conference game at Yunevich Stadium. They kept it close in the first quarter and started a slight comeback in the fourth, but it was too little, too late in a 14-7 loss.
The Saxons drop to 4-4 overall, with a 2-1 Empire 8 conference record. St. John Fisher moves to 6-4 with a perfect 2-0 Empire 8 conference record.
AU held the lead toward the end of the first quarter of action.
Brendan Riley (Fairport, NY/Fairport) opened the scoring with 11:29 to go and ended the day with two goals.
Sam Crosby (Auburn, NY/Auburn) got the lead with a beautiful behind-the-back goal right in front moments later.
Mike Halsey (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) followed suit by grabbing the lead back with 4:57 to go in the first frame. He also tacked on an assist to Crosby's goal. He added on two more assists to end with four points on the day.
Cole Loewke (Hilton, NY/Hilton) also had two goals in the game with both coming in the fourth quarter.
Kevin Matson (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Forks) added on with a goal of his own in the final 15 minutes.
Quinn Sullivan (Elmira, NY/Elmira) got the nod in net and was kept busy throughout. He ended the game with 10 saves in the loss.

Christian Moon (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) played outstanding between the lines.
Brendan Riley shot well today," Head Coach
Jason Lockner said. "We were excellent on clears and on specialty units. We have a lot of good things going for us despite the loss. Proud of the team's efforts."
AU will look to get back in the win column back on the road at SUNY Brockport on Wednesday, April 9 at 4:00 p.m.
