Men’s Lacrosse Drops E8 Road Contest at SUNY Brockport

BROCKPORT, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team came up short in its Empire 8 road contest to SUNY Brockport by a score of 11-4 on Wednesday.

Cole Loewke (Hilton, NY/Hilton) led the Saxons with two goals while Sam Crosby (Auburn, NY/Auburn) and Jacob Michaels (Macedon, NY/Ruben A. Cirillo) had one apiece. Hunter Cupp (Bath, NY/Haverling) posted 14 of Alfred University's 16 faceoff wins and matched his season-high 10 ground balls. Quinn Sullivan (Elmira, NY/Elmira) collected eight saves in net.

"Tough loss today," Head Coach Jason Lockner said. "The guys have to come out ready to go. Brockport came to play. Our specialty units did a good job today. We have to push forward and get ready for Saturday against Hartwick. They are a good team."

The Saxons (4-5, 2-2 Empire 8) had the 1-0 start after Crosby found Loewke for the goal at the 12:47 mark of the first period. However, the Golden Eagles (5-6, 2-2 Empire 8) outscored the visitors, 5-1, to take a 5-2 lead at the end of the first half.

SUNY Brockport tallied three goals while holding Alfred University scoreless in the third period. The game was put out of reach as a result.

The Golden Eagles had the advantage in shots, recording 37-29 overall with 19-14 in between the pipes. Meanwhile, the Saxons picked up 18 ground balls as a team.

Alfred University hosts Hartwick College at Yunevich Stadium on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
