KEUKA PARK, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team picked up a 22-5 win over Keuka College on Wednesday evening in Empire 8 road action.
The Saxons (4-3, 2-0 Empire 8) scored what would go down as the game-winning goal just 1:35 into the second quarter after posting a 4-1 score in the first.
Brendan Riley (Fairport, NY/Fairport) recorded the solo game-winner to make it 5-1 in favor of the Saxons. The Saxon defense kept the Wolves silenced as they only allowed goals in the final quarter after replacing starting players.
Quinn Sullivan (Elmira, NY/Elmira) picked up the win in goal with one save in the first half.
Cole Loewke (Hilton, NY/Hilton) recorded five goals and two assists for seven points to lead the Saxon offense as nine of his 10 shots were on target.
Mike Halsey (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) followed with five points on three assists and two goals.
Kevin Matson (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Forks) rounded out the top scoring for AU with a hat-trick.
Hunter Cupp (Bath, NY/Haverling) won 13-of-15 faceoffs with a team-leading eight ground balls.
Shane Cubala (River Vale, NJ/Pascask Valley) followed with six grounders. Both
Benjamin Cunningham (Dover, MD/The Gunston School) and
Nicholas Kramer (Fredericksburg, VA/St. John Paul the Great) caused three turnovers each.
13 different Saxon players found the back of the net while 10 recorded assists.

Jason Lockner said. "Guys are doing a great job playing as a team. Lot of unselfish plays out there. Mike Gruin stepped in and played well on offense controlling the ball.
Andrew Hardy is playing really strong D-Mid right now."
The Saxons will next return to Yunevich Stadium to host St. John Fisher University on Saturday, April 5 at 1:00pm in Empire 8 action.
