Sullivan Registers Career High in Saves at Allegheny

MEADVILLE, PA – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team dropped its first road contest of the season to Allegheny College on Wednesday.

Quinn Sullivan (Elmira, NY/Elmira) collected a career-high 20 saves in his 15th career start as goalie.

Four Saxons contributed to the scoring column. Cole Loewke (Hilton, NY/Hilton) led Alfred University with three goals while notching two ground balls and one caused turnover. Marcus Darminio (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) and Brendan Riley (Fairport, NY/Fairport) each registered two points on one goal and one assist. Riley posted a career-high six ground balls and caused one turnover. Sam Crosby (Auburn, NY/Auburn) scored the third goal of his career.

Hunter Cupp (Bath, NY/Haverling) tallied a season-high 14 faceoffs won and 10 ground balls.

"That was a tough loss," Head Coach Jason Lockner said. "We did not come ready to play. Their goalie made a lot of good saves. I do have to give credit to our faceoff unit, especially Hunter Cupp. They played well. Max Freeman IV gave us maximum effort. Got a lot of work to do moving forward."

Alfred University (1-1) started the contest with a 2-1 lead after thanks to the first two goals by Crosby and Darminio. Allegheny College (1-2) went on a 4-1 run to jump in front, 5-3, at the end of the first half.

The Saxons stormed out in the third period with three unanswered goals. Loewke registered one of his two goals during the stretch to put Alfred University back on top, 6-5, at 6:34. However, the Saxons were held scoreless the rest of the contest while the Gators extended their lead that put the game out of reach.
Alfred University made 44 shots and picked up 35 ground balls.

The Saxons look to bounce back at Yunevich Stadium as they host Oswego State on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
