Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Saxons Fall to Oswego State

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team was back at Yunevich Stadium where it came up short to Oswego State, 7-3, on Saturday.

The Saxons saw goals scored by Marcus Darminio (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus), Cole Loewke (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and Peter Colburn (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford), Quinn Sullivan (Elmira, NY/Elmira) tallied 15 saves in net while matching his career-high five ground balls. Hunter Cupp (Bath, NY/Haverling) registered 11 faceoff wins and picked up seven ground balls.

"It was a defensive battle," Head Coach Jason Lockner said. "Quinn Sullivan played well as did our faceoff unit with Hunter Cupp and Shane Cubala. I'm proud of the guys' effort. That was a big turnaround from last game. Only moving forward at this time."

Both teams defended their nets for most of the first period with the goalies making three saves apiece. Alfred University (1-2) got on the board with 45 seconds left after Loewke threw the ball into the net off the assist from Mike Halsey (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon). The Saxons took a 1-0 lead at the end of the first.

Oswego State (1-2) went on a 3-0 run that stretched from the second period to the beginning of the third for a 3-1 advantage. Halsey recorded his second assist on the goal by Colburn at 11:59 which brought Alfred University within one.

Unfortunately, that was as close the Saxons would get in the game as the Lakers outscored them, 4-1, putting the game out of reach.

Alfred University made 28 shots while Oswego State notched 35. The Saxons also picked up 39 ground balls.

Alfred University heads to Sparks, Maryland for a neutral contest against Wittenberg University on Tuesday, March 11 at 1:00 PM.
