ALFRED, NY – Alfred University's
Khamani Hunter Sr (Poughkeepsie, NY/FDR) and
Jason Crocker (Oreland, PA/Springfield Township) claimed both honors from the Empire 8's weekly listing for men's track & field on Monday.
Hunter was named the Empire 8 Track Athlete of the Week while Crocker earned Field Athlete of the Week. It was both Saxons' first time earning the awards.
Hunter began the outdoor season on a strong note as he registered two first-place finishes at the Redhawk Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan University on Wednesday. He won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.14. Hunter also registered a personal best time of 22.51 to earn first in the 200-meter dash. He ran the second leg of the 4x400-meter relay team as he teamed with
Neil Peters (The Bronx, NY/DeWitt Clinton),
Jayden Noel (Brooklyn, NY/Automotive) and
Steve Cordell Hoskins III (Buffalo, NY/St. Joseph's Collegiate Institution) to combine for a third place time of 3:39.79 to beat out Daemen College's time of 3:40.54.
Crocker started his senior outdoor season by putting up two marks close to his personal records as he won the shot put and finished second in the discus throw on Wednesday at Roberts Wesleyan. He threw a 13.77m (45'-2.25") mark in the shot put to win. Second place was an unattached thrower who was almost half a meter behind him as the rest of the collegiate pool of competitors was over a meter behind him. Crocker closed out the early season Redhawk Invite with a toss of 40.22m (131'-11") in the discus to take second out of the field of 12.
Hunter and Crocker were joined in the weekly listings by
Anne Spila (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) as the Women's Track Athlete of the Week and
Megan Rinker (Le Roy, NY/Le Roy) as the Women's Lacrosse Co-Player of the Week on Monday. Both Hunter and Rinker were also named the Saxons of the Week.
