Saxons Roll Past Gators for First E8 Win of Season

ALBANY, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team earned its first Empire 8 win of the season with a dominating 14-5 victory over Russell Sage College on Saturday.
 
Keagan Hoesterey (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) led the Saxons with a season-high seven points on a season-high three goals while matching his season-high four assists. He is the second first year player this season to lead Alfred University in points. Kevin Matson (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Forks) matched his season-high five goals while picking up three ground balls and causing one turnover. Mike Halsey (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) notched five points on a season-high three goals and two assists. He also added two ground balls and one caused turnover to his stat line. 

Goalie Quinn Sullivan (Elmira, NY/Elmira) collected nine saves in net.
 
"Happy for the guys to get a conference," Head Coach Jason Lockner said. "The guys continue to work hard and get better. Rhett Krieger did a great job at the faceoff X. Benjamin Cunningham was excellent on the ground balls. Christian Moon continues to grow in his defense and midfield role. Keagan Hoesterey stepped up and had a day today."
 
The Saxons (3-3, 1-0 E8) ended the first period on a 6-1 lead, with Matson and Halsey combining for the team's points.
 
Loewke and Matson registered goals at the beginning of the second period to extend Alfred University's advantage by two. Russell Sage College (3-6, 0-1 E8) went on a 3-0 run to cut the score within four at the 38-second mark. The Saxons would go into halftime with an 8-4 lead.
 
In the second half, Alfred University tallied six goals while holding Russell Sage College to just one to come away with the victory.
 
The Saxons outshot the Gators, 60-32, including 34-15 in between the pipes.
 
Alfred University has a week off before traveling to Keuka College on Wednesday, April 2 at 4:00 PM.
