UTICA, NY -- The Alfred University men's track & field team traveled to Utica University on Friday for day one of the Indoor Empire 8 Conference Championships.
Jason Crocker (Oreland, PA/Springfield Township) competed in shot put and went through to finals to place sixth overall with a throw of 14.32m (46'-11.75"), scoring three points for the Saxons.
Khamani Hunter (Poughkeepsie, NY/FDR) and
Neil Peters (The Bronx, NY/DeWitt Clinton) both raced in the 60-meter dash. Hunter ran a competitive race and placed ninth with a time of 7.17 seconds. Peters ran a finalist-qualifying time of 7.09 seconds leading him to a fifth place seeding. Peters will compete in the 60m finals tomorrow.
The men's distance medley relay had a seventh place podium finish. The race opened with
Jacob Taylor (Cohocton, NY/Avoca) in the 1200m who handed off to
Aidan Bieron (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore West) in the 400m dash,
Finnegan Dean (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam Central) followed up with the 800m and
Jeremiah Ford (Arkport, NY/Alfred-Almond) finished strong with the mile. The men's relay team finished with a time of 11:03.97.
"We saw a mix of results during a very competitive field in the sprints, but still came out with a couple personal bests," Assistant Track & Field Coach,
Bill Sortore said. "The attitude that tomorrow's results will be better for those who missed the mark has us all excited to see everyone come through on day two."
The Saxons will next conclude the Empire 8 Championships on Saturday.
