Charles, Hind Earn All-Empire 8 Recognition

ALFRED, NY Amoi Charles (Elmont, NY/H. Frank Carey) and Tyler Hind (Randolph, NY/Randolph) were each named as All-Empire 8 talents, as announced by the conference on Thursday.

Charles was recognized as part of the Second Team, while Hind was listed as part of the Third Team.

Charles wrapped up a successful junior season in which he totaled 300 points, 161 rebounds and 19 assists. On the defensive end, Charles was credited with 40 steals and 27 blocks for the Saxons. Charles registered double-digit scoring figures in 15 contests for Alfred University, including three double-double performances.

"Amoi is so deserving of this recognition," Head Coach Erich Kaempffe said. "I think coaching can be so rewarding because of guys like Amoi. The growth he has shown since he arrived at AU is immeasurable. He had to take on leadership roles on and off the court this year and did a great job with both aspects while competing every day at a high level. He has literally just outworked people on his way to success and I am so proud of him. I love working with him so much. I can't wait to see what steps he takes between now and next year!"

Hind led Alfred University with a team-high 323 points and 80 assists this past season to go with 72 rebounds. Hind additionally recorded 26 steals and five blocks on the defensive end. Hind earned his first collegiate double-double performance in a win against Keuka this past January.

"Tyler's competitiveness and belief in his teammates are two of my favorite things about him," Kaempffe said. "He wants to win so badly, and I think we as a team fed off that quite a bit this year. He dealt with so much attention from opposing defenses and I'm not sure people realize how much that wears on you – but he handled it and still found a way to be successful and get his teammates involved. It's rare that your leading scorer is also your leader in assists, but I think that speaks to what kind of competitor and teammate he is. I feel fortunate to get to spend another with Tyler and am excited to see where that takes us."

Additionally, Alfred University has selected Oscar Wolter (Munich, Germany/Lycee Jean Renoir) as their 2024-25 Men's Basketball Sportsman of the Year. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission.

"Oscar is a first-class human being," Kaempffe said. "He does everything the right way and has been such a good role model for our younger players in terms of his approach and attitude every day. Given our circumstances this year, he had to do so much. He never complained and he shouldered so much responsibility and did it all while being a great person and teammate. I'm so glad he decided to come spend a couple of years with us and we're all going to miss him in so many areas next year. He has been such a great ambassador for our program."
