WEBSTER, NY — The Alfred University women's swimming & diving team concluded its season with a fifth place finish at the Empire 8 Championships.
"It goes without saying that at a meet like this, we want to do well with team scoring. Although we didn't realize our goal with placement, I am ecstatic knowing the successes we had with each and every individual opportunity," Head Coach Brian Striker '00 said. "It's pretty rare to get everyone firing on all mental, physical, emotional, positivity, and supportive cylinders at the same time. This team certainly did that this week as good or better than any group I've ever coached!"
Elizabeth Share (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) continued to lead the way, as she set a school record for the second straight day. It came in the 200-yard backstroke A-Final, where she finished second with a time of 2:05.22 - more than one second ahead of the previous school record.
She also came home fifth in the 400-free relay with Isobel Anderegg (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area), Maureen Derry (Asheville, NC/Asheville), and Sarah Anderson (Wayne, PA/Radnor) - with the latter two of those four having this relay be their final career college races. They clocked in at 3:41.42.
Anderson also won her last individual race in the B-Final of the 100-yard freestyle, with a 53.84. Other individual race results came from Lauren Mott (Cortland, NY/Cortland) in the B-Final of the 200-yard breast in third at 2:41.63, and the aforementioned Anderegg in the A-Final of the 200-breast with a 2:38.26.
Finally in the diving well, Ruby Kavanagh (Queens, NY/LaGuardia High School of Music & Art) ended her year on a high note. In the 11-dive competition, she finished seventh with a score of 331.05.
With the 2024-25 season now complete, the Saxons will turn their attention to relaxation and resetting for those returning to the program in the fall.
