HOUGHTON, NY – The Alfred University men's track & field team produced nine top five results in its final regular season indoor meet at the Last Chance Qualifier hosted by Houghton University on Saturday.
"We traveled to Houghton today with a smaller group than normal," Graduate Assistant Coach
Kevin Flint said. "But the Saxons still delivered an impressive showing. It was great to see multiple new PRs and some event winners as well. We'll look to carry this momentum forward to Empire 8's next week."
Jonathan Hodges (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) and
Jacob Taylor (Cohocton, NY/Avoca) highlighted the meet by winning their respective events. Hodges ran in the 300-meter dash for the first time in his career and notched a time of 36.41. Taylor recorded 2:45.54 in his third career appearance in the 1,000-meter run.
Khamani Hunter Sr (Poughkeepsie, NY/FDR) recorded third place in two of his events. He ran a personal best time of 22.68 in the 200-meter dash, which moved him up to ninth overall in the qualification rankings in the event for the Empire 8 Championships. Hunter also posted 7.07 in the final of the 60-meter dash after notching fifth at 7.09 in the prelim.
Riley Ciamarra (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) earned his highest finish and time in the 300-meter dash as he crossed the finish line to claim third on a personal best time of 38.09.
Aidan Bieron (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore West) represented Alfred University for the first time in the 400-meter dash. He earned his first career top three performance after finishing third overall at 54.59.
Yuner Sesmas (Apollo, PA/Kiski Area) and
Damian Brown (Homer, NY/Homer) came in fourth and fifth in the 5,000-meter run. Both crossed the finish line 0.29 seconds apart with Sesmas notching 17:41.38 and Brown recording a personal best with 17:41.67.
The team of Hunter, Hodges, Ciamarra and Bieron added another first place finish for the Saxons in the 4x200-meter relay at 1:34.35.
Alfred University prepares for the E8 Championship set to take place at Utica University on February 28-March 1.
