ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University hunt seat equestrian team earned High Point Team honors during the Saxons' home show on Sunday morning.
This was the first time in over a decade that the Saxons showed in the outdoor arena at the Bromeley-Daggett Equestrian Center at Maris Cuneo Equine Park for hunt seat after the dressage team hosted its first ever home show on October 4, which was also featured in the outdoor arena.
Maggie Childs (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) earned the title of High Point Rider while also punching her ticket to the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone II, Region I Regional show. She won both the Open Fences and Intermediate Flat on the day to do so, helping AU secure the win over Reserve High Point Team, Cornell University. Alfred University and Cornell are now tied in the regional standing as both teams hold 117 points. Binghamton University is third in the region with 80 points and University of Buffalo is fourth with 72.
Ani Sydorowych (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) and
Will Utzman (Fairport, NY/Fairport) each joined Childs with blue-ribbon finishes on Sunday. Sydorowych won Open Flat while Utzman won Limit Flat. Utzman also claimed third in Intermediate Fences.
Isabella Rabiner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) took second in Pre Novice while
Madison Smith (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) ended the Saxons showings with a second place finish in Introductory.
Stephen Kuss IV (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) joined Utzman in Limit Flat where he earned third place. He also took fifth in Limit Fences.
The Saxons will next travel to Cornell University for an IHSA show on Sunday, November 2.
