ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University hunt seat equestrian team claimed the top honor as High Point Team during its final regular season show of the season on Sunday from the Bromeley-Daggett Equestrian Center at Maris Cuneo Equine Park.
 
The Saxons bested nine other teams during Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) action on Sunday. They were followed by Cornell University as the Reserve High Point Team. The other schools that the Saxons defeated were SUNY Brockport, Binghamton University, Hobart & William Smith Colleges, Ithaca College, Nazareth University, University of Buffalo, Rochester Institute of Technology and University of Rochester. AU totaled 40 points on Sunday with Cornell scoring 26, Binghamton recording 22 and UB totaling 20 as the only teams to break the 20-point mark.
 
Maggie Childs (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) earned High Point Rider on Sunday and Lucia Jackson-Young (Ithaca, NY/Lehman Alternative Community School) was named the Reserve High Point Rider. Childs qualified for the IHSA Regionals in Open Flat while Ani Sydorowych (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) punched her ticket in Open Fences. Those two will join Will Utzman (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and Ellie Smith (Hyde Park, MA/Boston Latin School) at Regionals. Utzman will show in Limit Flat while Smith will compete in Novice.
 
Childs won both Open Flat and Open Fences on Sunday, claiming two of the Saxons' seven blue ribbons. Utzman claimed the victory in Intermediate Flat, Section A. Jackson-Young won Limit Fences, Section B. Lily Coats (New Boston, NH/Goffstown) took the top spot in Novice, Section A. Stephen Kuss IV (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) earned a blue ribbon in Limit Flat, Section B and Smith closed out the Saxon victories with her showing in Novice, Section B.
