CORTLAND, NY -- The Alfred University women's alpine skiing side competed Saturday at Labrador Mountain and Sunday at Greek Peak Resort, coming home happy with the results.
"We had some excellent results and we can tell our training is working," Head Coach
Bob Cilino '13 said. "Sunday we had some issues but we will keep working at it next week."
At Labrador Saturday,
Zoe Rainville (Saranac, NY/Saranac) led the way with a sub-one minute run in her first race to lead the Saxons with a combined time of 2:09.32. Her first run time of 59.38 was 31st fastest overall. The other two participants on Saturday improved their second run times, with
Gail Miller (Dayton, OH/Stivers School for the Arts) gaining almost 20 seconds in a 1:10.38 effort. Plus,
Sophia Lazarenko (Buffalo, NY/Park School of Buffalo) had her second run improve nearly 10 seconds, finishing with a 1:23.69.
Transitioning to the giant slalom at Greek Peak on Sunday, the Saxons finished with a combined time of 8:29.77, edging ahead of Ithaca College in the finishing order. Miller would be the highest-finishing runner of the day, with her two runs consistently coming in at the 1:13 mark.
Next week's competition at Bristol Mountain marks the halfway point of the season. The giant slalom on Saturday and slalom on Sunday both get underway at 9:30 a.m.
