Piechota Headlines Women's Lacrosse All-Empire 8 Honors

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse program had four different players receive All-Empire 8 honors, as released on Monday.
 
The four honorees mark the highest for Alfred University Women's Lacrosse since the 2009 season.
 
"I am really proud of what we accomplished as a team this year," Head Coach Julie Decker. "The four who made the All-Conference Teams were leaders on the field and stepped up to make this one of the best seasons our program has had in a long time."
 
Goalkeeper of the Year
 
Alyssa Piechota (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) became the first player in program history to be named as the Empire 8 Goalkeeper of the Year. Piechota finished atop the Empire 8 conference with a .493 save percentage, recording 172 saves for AU. Piechota wrapped up a successful senior year with the Saxons, coming away with six program records. Across her collegiate career, Piechota leads Alfred University with 231 career ground balls, 83 ground balls in a season, 13 ground balls in a game, 205 saves in a season, 24 saves in a game and a career save percentage of .485.
 
All-Empire 8 Second Team
 
For the third straight season, Amelia Booth (Staatsburg, NY/FDR) received All-Empire 8 honors. Booth finished third in the Empire 8 with 49 goals across 102 shots for the Saxons. Earlier this season, Booth became just the eighth player in program history to eclipse 100 career goals. Booth additionally ranked third in the conference with 87 draw controls this past spring. Booth was credited with 32 ground balls to go with 12 caused turnovers for AU.
 
Abigail Call (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) wrapped up a successful career with the women's lacrosse program, being named to the All-Empire 8 Second Team. Call tied the program record and finished second in the Empire 8 with 32 caused turnovers this past season. Across her three-year collegiate career, Call finished fourth in program history with 59 career caused turnovers. This past spring, Call totaled 11 points from seven goals and a career-high four assists.
 
All-Empire 8 Third Team
 
Cassidy Primrose (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville) received All-Empire 8 Third Team recognition for her efforts on the defensive end for Alfred University. Primorse finished the spring season with 33 ground balls to go with 19 caused turnovers. She was additionally responsible for 14 draw controls for the Saxons. On the offensive end, Primrose recorded a pair of goals and assists.
 
Empire 8 Sportswoman of the Year
 
Call was named as Alfred University's selection for Empire 8 Sportswoman of the Year. The Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. Call has distinguished herself, consistently exhibiting the critical traits as an outstanding sportswoman.
