KEUKA, NY - The Alfred University women's lacrosse team defeated Keuka College Wednesday evening, 10-7, extending its win streak to five and tying the program record for most consecutive wins.

The Saxons (5-2, 2-0 Empire 8) had a 3-2 advantage in the first period before the Wolves (2-5, 0-2 Empire 8) responded, 3-2, in the second to tie the game at 5-all. AU eventually outscored Keuka College by a score of 5-2 in the second half to come out on top.
Leading the way for the Saxons was
Morgan Wise (Kittanning, PA / Armstrong), who matched her career-high five goals and notched two ground balls in the matchup.
Cassidy Primrose (Baldwinsville, NY / C.W. Baker) and
Paige Stansfield (Painted Post, NY Corning-Painted Post) both recorded two goals apiece. Stansfield tagged two assists, five ground balls and a career-high four caused turnovers while Primrose notched one assist.
Kylee Bedette (Waterloo, NY Waterloo) scored a goal of her own along with two assists.Â
Saxons goalie,
Molly Howlett (Brockport, NY / Brockport) recorded an impressive eight saves in the contest while picking up two ground balls.
Alfred University took the lead within the first four minutes of play when Primrose found an open Bedette for the first goal of the matchup on a man-up opportunity. The Saxons weren't done in the first period, scoring two more goals off the hot hand of Primrose for a one-point advantage at the end of the first, 3-2.
In the second period, Wise found the net and recorded her first goal of the match. Just seconds later, Bedette found Stansfield, who sailed the ball into the net for the Saxons' fifth goal of the contest. The Wolves went on a 3-0 run to tie the game at 5-all going into halftime.
Wise got the third period scoring started, sending a ball into the net for her second goal of the matchup on a man-down opportunity. She wasn't done there, scoring three more times in the period, after three teammates, Bedette, Stansfield and
Jessica Matson (Binghamton, NY Chenango Valley) found her for the open score.Â
Alfred University's final goal of the contest came in the fourth period when Stansfield sailed the ball into the net, securing a four-goal lead late in the contest. The Wolves scored one last time, but the efforts weren't enough and the Saxons secured the victory.

"We struggled today getting off the bus, but after halftime we were able to pick up the energy and put some goals on the board," Interim Head Coach
Erin Schurr said. "We were pleased that the team was able to battle and finish strong."
Alfred University will host St. John Fisher University on Saturday, April 4th, for a 1:00 PM start at Yunevich Stadium.
