ITHACA, NY — Alfred University's women's swimming & diving team spent its weekend away at the Ithaca Invitational for the three-day event.
"This was a pretty tough meet, essentially throwing all the events into two days with prelims and finals," head coach Brian Striker '00 said. "We're certainly not used to that and it gave us a chance to look in the mirror and see what we're made of. This group continues to exceed my expectations at the markers at certain points of the season."
Sarah Anderson (Wayne, PA/Radnor) led the Saxons in the pool in both relay and individual races. Her best performance of the weekend came in the 50-yard freestyle, where she finished third in the B-final and 11th overall. She was just .01 seconds behind 10th place as she clocked in a 24.78.
The other standout performances for Alfred University came in the relays. Elizabeth Share (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon), Isobel Anderegg (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area), and Maureen Derry (Asheville, NC/Asheville) joined Anderson in the 400-yard freestyle relay, where they finished ninth overall with a 3:46.26. Plus, the four combined in the 200-yard medley relay for a 10th-place finish and a time of 1:56.90.
The Saxons finished ninth overall and are ready for a nice month-long break for the holidays. Next up is the first of three home meets in a row on January 10 against Nazareth University.
