HOUGHTON, NY — Alfred University's men's track & field team opened up its season at an indoor meet hosted by Houghton University.

"Definitely think the meet had a lot of energy, out the athletes competing and supporting their teammates," Coach Chris Boswell said. "Lots of great performances on the track with runners showing their ability to compete and race hard in their events. On the field, lots of good things we saw, plenty to improve on, and looking forward to the opportunity of chasing our goals."

Jonathan Hodges (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) was the main story line, as he broke an Alfred University school record. He won his 600-meter dash heat with a 1:25.84, breaking the previous record of 1:25.90 set by Kevin Ewsuk in 1980. It was the fourth-best time overall in the event. 

Khamani Hunter (Poughkeepsie, NY/FDR) wrapped up a time of 7.17 in the 60-meter dash, which was enough to qualify him in the finals as well. He finished sixth in the finals with a 7.16.

Another qualifier in the prelims was Elijah Kahl (Glen Ridge, NJ/Glen Ridge), whose time of 9.94 was enough to make it to the finals in the 60-meter hurdles. He came home fifth in the finals, clocking in a 9.79. 

In the field, Daimel Fowler (Baldwinsville, NY/Baker) just missed third by one spot in the shot put final. But, he finished ahead of 33 others, throwing 12.50 meters in the end.

The Saxons get a well-deserved break heading into the holidays, returning back in January with their meet at Utica on the 17th at 4 PM.
