HOUGHTON, NY -- The Alfred University Women's Cross Country team came home eighth in the Empire 8 Championship meet Saturday morning.
"It was great to see the team come together today for our championship," head coach
Matt Phillips '10 said. "They brought out the best of each other and we had some very good performances."
Leading the charge for the Saxons were the two runners who have done so all year long.
McKenzie Hall (Hornell, NY/Hornell) finished in the top 50, 48th overall, with a time of 24:17.2. Keeping pace with her was first-year runner
Alivia Kocan (Hornell, NY/Arkport Central), clocking in a 24:58.5.
The next two finishers for Alfred University were two sophomore runners,
Zoe Rainville (Saranac, NY/Saranac) and
Desirea Stuart (Jasper, NY/Jasper-Troupsburg). They kept pace with one another all race long, and were separated by one spot at 27:32.5 and 27:35.1 respectively. Wrapping up the top-five was
Annabelle Townsend (Woodsville, NY/Woodsville) in her final race with a finish of 28:16.1.
Once again, the season of progress continues for this Saxons side which has brought home good individual results - this race included. Next up for two Saxon runners are the NCAA Regionals Championship on November 16 at Fredonia.
