ALFRED, NY -- Alfred University's Men's Swim & Dive team held its first home meet of the 2024-25 season, sweeping both SUNY Brockport and Alfred State at the McLane Natatorium.
"I was pretty happy with today's results since I didn't think we would swim as fast as we did," head coach
Brian Striker '00 said. "We were able to pull off the wins against both Brockport and Alfred State. Keeping our training in mind and the results we had today, the trajectory that they are on is pretty encouraging."
Carlos Gonzalez (Baja California, Mexico/Unifront) was once again the star of the show for the Saxons. He was part of the team that placed first in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, and finished 18 seconds ahead of the second place finisher in the 500-yard freestyle with a 4:56.17. He also broke a pool record in the 200-yard Individual Medley with a time of 1:54.71, three seconds off the previous pool record and fifth fastest time in school history.
Emmanuel Drappatz (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area) also swept up first place finishes across the board. He was part of the winning 200-yard Medley Relay team, and took first in the 50-yard Freestyle with a 22.04. He also was on the top step in the 100-yard Freestyle, six seconds better than his previous best, at 49.21.
Sean Killian (Kenmore, NY/St. Joseph's Collegiate Institution) also was part of the 400-yard Freestyle Relay-winning team, and won the 1,000-yard Freestyle race, clocking in a 10:47.24.
William LaMastus (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne) was part of the 400-Free Relay, placed first in the 100-yard Backstroke with a 54.44, and third in the 200-yard IM at 2:03.08.
Elsewhere in the pool,
Alexander Villegas (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) was part of the 400-Free Relay winning team, and placed second in the 200-yard Freestyle with a time of 1:51.03, three seconds better than his previous time.
Paul Tuttle (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) was on the 200-Medley Relay winning team, and was second in both the 50-yard Freestyle and 100-yard Backstroke at 23.18 and 56.57 respectively.
Emiliano Terrazas (La Paz, Bolivia/Saint Andrew's) helped the 200-yard Medley Relay team place first, was second in the 200-yard IM with a 2:02.51, and wrapped up third in the 100-yard Breaststroke with a 1:02.23.
Keagen Winkky (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) was also part of the aforementioned Medley Relay team, and was second himself in the 100-yard Butterfly, clocking in a 57.67.
The Saxons also finished second in the 200-yard Medley Relay with its B-Team, made up of
Ryan Goshow (Camillus, NY/West Genesee),
Wade LaMastus (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne),
Jordan Annlee (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta), and
Ryaan Adnan Ali Rana (Springfield, VA/Karachi Grammar School). Goshow was also third in the 100-yard Backstroke with a 59.29. LaMastus would win the 100-yard Breaststroke at 1:02.16, and Annlee was right behind him with a time of 1:02.22.
Finally,
Jaxson McQuaid (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) would get the Saxon divers on the score sheet as well. He finished second in the 1-meter Dive with a score of 236.35, and was third in the 3-meter dive with a 205.43.
In the end, it was a phenomenal day for the Saxons, beating Brockport 162-74, and defeating their cross-street rivals 170-67. Next up is another home meet against Hobart College on Friday, November 1 at 5:00 pm.
