Late Night Results in Multiple Top-10 Finishes for Men’s Track & Field

ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University men's track & field team continued its indoor season at the Rochester Institute of Technology January Invitational on Friday evening.
 
The 4x200-meter relay team of John Wendt (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter), Riley Ciamarra (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas), Mike Thammavong (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) and Kevin Voegelin had the top finish for the Saxons on the day as they finished third with a time of 1:37.97. Wendt had multiple sprinting highlights earlier in the evening. He started with running in the 60-meter dash and after a minor malfunction in the opening heat's timing results, he qualified for the finals with a time of 7.44 after running the first length again. In the finals, Wendt clocked a mirrored time of 7.44 to finish eighth overall. He then finished 13th in the 200-meter dash with an Empire 8 mark of 24.36.
 
Ciamarra missed the finals in the 60-meters but finished ninth overall with an Empire 8 time of 7.54. Despite missing finals, his performance stayed in a positive rise as he took eighth in the 300-meter dash with a time of 38.10. He then 'JUMPED' into the field events to finish fifth in the long jump with an Empire 8 distance of 5.75m (18'-10.5"). He was followed by Carter Buckman (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) who took ninth with a distance of 5.62m (18'-5.25"). Buckman had the best individual finish on the track with a time of 10.55 in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, earning seventh place after being seeded with fifth, running a 10.34 in the prelims.
 
Jason Crocker (Oreland, PA/Springfield Township) also earned a fifth place finish in the field events, making finals in the shot put with an opening throw of 13.47m (44'-2.5"), giving him an extra three throws where his fifth throw was the one that claimed the final finish. He chucked the shot 13.65m (44'-9.5"). Kenneth Berlin (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) missed finals but finished in the Top-10 with his throw of 11.17m (36'-7.75").
 
Crocker also took ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 13.21m (43'-4.25").
 
The Saxons will next look toward a two-day meet at SUNY Brockport with the Saxons competing in the pentathlon starting on Friday, February 2 and the rest of the team on Saturday, February 3.
