ALFRED, NY – After helping the Alfred University women's volleyball team to a 3-0, record-breaking weekend,
Taylor Malone (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) was named one of the two Empire 8 Women's Volleyball Co-Players of the Week on Monday in an official announcement from Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro.
Malone is now on a five-match streak of double-digit kills and points as she helped the Saxons go 3-0 during the Skidmore College Classic on Friday and Saturday, defeating Plattsburgh State in three sets and SUNY Oneonta and SUNY Morrisville in four sets each on Saturday. Malone had multiple career-highs as she totaled 46 kills, two block assists and one service ace for a total of 48.0 points. She had 19.5 points off of 19 kills and a block assist for a career-high against SUNY Oneonta. Malone followed that match with 18.0 points from 17 kills and an ace in a win over SUNY Morrisville. Her ace helped the Saxons break a school record for most aces in a four-set match, totaling 19. She set another career-high on Friday, hitting .241 with 10 kills and three errors on 29 attacks during the three-set win over Plattsburgh State. Malone tacked on eight digs and two set assists.
Malone was joined on Monday by
Alina Zabihailo (Kyiv, Ukraine/Educational Complex #143) as the Women's Tennis Player of the Week,
TJ Marsh (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) as the Football Co-Defensive Player of the Week and
Juan Jose Menendez Gutierrez (Villanueva Cañada, Madrid, Spain/Woodstock Academy) as the Men's Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week. Malone and Marsh were also named the Saxons of the Week on Monday.
