ELMIRA, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team close out its weekend with a 3-1 win at Elmira College in Empire 8 action on Saturday afternoon.
The Saxons (10-15, 4-3 Empire 8) dropped the first set to the Soaring Eagles (1-16, 0-7 Empire 8) 23-25, but then flipped the script and won three, unanswered sets, 25-21, 25-12, 25-19 to claim the victory and to keep Elmira winless in Empire 8 action.
Alfred University had three players in double-digit scoring, led by
Carleigh Santavy (Commerce, MI/Walled Lake Northern) with 18.0 points on 16 kills and two solo blocks while chipping in 11 digs.
Julia Abbott (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) had 10 kills and a block assist for 10.5 total points.
Abigail Omelan (Tomball, TX/Tomball Memorial) added seven kills and three service aces for 10.0 points.
Whitney Kilton (Pearl City, HI/Pearl City) had a match-high hitting percentage, registering a .400 with six kills on 15 attacks and no errors. She added two block assists and one solo stop for 8.0 points.
Gillian Dickerson (Frisco, TX/Wakeland) had match-highs in set assists with 37 (the entire Elmira roster totaled 29) and in aces with five (Elmira had a team total of four). The Saxons totaled 17 service aces which ties for third all-time for a four-set match in school history.
Madalynn McGowan (Corona, CA/Norco) had a match-high in digs with 17 and also contributed four service aces and five assists.
The Saxons will next return to the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena as they take on Russell Sage College on Friday, October 23 at 6:00pm in Empire 8 action.
