ALFRED, NY – Prior to Monday, there have only been 12 Saxon student-athletes to have earned Empire 8 Weekly Awards five or more times in a career and on Monday,
Alyssa Piechota (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) joined them after an official announcement by Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro.
On Monday, Piechota picked up her fifth Women's Lacrosse Goalie of the Week. She was the only women's lacrosse player in AU history with three or more honors as she had two in her first and two in her second season as a Saxon.
Piechota became just the sixth player in AU history to surpass 400 career saves as she totaled 29 saves in two games while allowing 21 goals. She set a season-high save percentage of .613 on Wednesday at Morrisville, making a season-high 19 saves and allowed 12 goals. Piechota picked up her first win of the season with the Empire 8-opener against Keuka College. She added six ground balls and one caused turnover on the week as well.
She was joined in the Empire 8 listings on Monday by two Saxon men's lacrosse players as
Kevin Matson (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Forks) and
Scott Kimiecik (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) swept the E8 awards. Piechota joined the list of Saxons with five or more awards that includes Kimiecik as he earned his eighth career E8 Weekly Award, tying him for third in Saxon history.
Piechota and the Saxons will next travel to Nazareth College on Tuesday, April 4 at 7:00pm.
