Saxons Conclude Indoor Track & Field Season at The Armory

NEW YORK, NY – The Alfred University men's and women's track & field teams finished the indoor portion of their seasons after day two of the All-Atlantic Regional Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) Indoor Championships hosted by The Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory in New York City.

The men's 4x200-meter relay team of John Wendt (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter), Steven Jackson (Culpeper, VA/Eastern View), Jaleel Joseph (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and Neil Peters (The Bronx, NY/DeWitt Clinton) had the top finish on Saturday. They combined for a time of 1:33.29 to finish 17th.

"The regional meet was a great conclusion to a very long and very successful indoor season," Interim Head Coach Matt Phillips '10 said. "These athletes have been training since October and to be able to qualify and compete in The Armory in New York City is a fantastic experience."

Nyah Solly (Colden, NY/Springville-Griffith Institute) finished 18th in the triple jump with a distance of 10.59m (34'-9") while George Mecca (Derby, NY/Eden) closed out the individual efforts with a time of 1:59.43 in the men's 800-meter run to finish 27th.

"Anne [Spila] was able to improve her score from last week in the pentathlon, improving her school record. The women's distance medley relay was so close to a school record (0.18 seconds away) set back in 2010. The men's 4x200 team had the fastest time in nine years. It's truly been a great season to be a Saxon," Coach Phillips said.

The Saxons will next enjoy a trip to Myrtle Beach, SC to compete in the two-day, outdoor track & field-opener, the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge on Friday and Saturday, March 10 and 11.
