Amelia Booth (Staatsburg, NY/FDR) of the Alfred University women's lacrosse team broke another ceiling for the program as its first Empire 8 Rookie of the Year while being named All-E8 First Team on Monday afternoon.
"I've coached many amazing athletes over my 15 years of coaching. Amelia is one of those once in a lifetime players who we at Alfred have had the privilege this year to play with, coach, and watch," Interim Head Coach
Johanna McCormick said. "She is a very determined, disciplined and driven young woman. Amelia is a cornerstone for the future of Alfred women's lacrosse. I look forward to seeing what she can do throughout her career at Alfred."
In Booth's first outing as a Saxon during the regular season, she broke both the Alfred University and Empire 8 records for most draw controls in a single game with 20 in a win over Wells College. She also holds the AU records for most shots in a game with 18 against Cazenovia and single season shots with 126, breaking it first against St. John Fisher College with her 116
th shot.
Booth led all of the Empire 8 with 3.86 goals per game with a league-leading 54 scores. She also led the E8 in points per game with 4.86 and shots per game with 9.00 a game. Booth is fourth in the nation in draw controls per game with 9.36 controls a game. She totaled 131 draw controls on the year as another Alfred University school record.
There was only one game in which she did not register a point and only two total games where she did not have three or more goals. Booth scored nine free-position goals while gathering 38 ground balls and causing 20 turnovers.

Alyssa Piechota (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) as the Alfred University representative on the Empire 8 Sportswomen of the Year. "Alyssa has been such an incredible asset to our team over the last two season. She has been crucial to the team's success this year," Coach McCormick said. "She has dedicated countless hours to her teammates on and off the field. Regardless of what was going on with the team, she has remained positive and consistent. We are incredibly grateful for Alyssa's time and dedication towards teammates, the program and university as a whole."
The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. Piechota has distinguished herself, consistently exhibiting the critical traits as an outstanding sportswoman.
