ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University men's track & field team wrapped up its final invitational before the Empire 8 Outdoor Championships as the Saxons finished 14
th out of the 14 teams that scored team points at the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational on Saturday.
The Saxons scored seven team points with five of those coming from
Aiden Chu (Beltsville, MD/Hauppauge) in his first collegiate track & field meet. Chu qualified for the All-Atlantic Regional Track & Field Championships (AARTFC) on Saturday as he ran a 15.71 in the 110-meter hurdles, earning the five points with his fourth place finish. The AARTFC-qualifying time is 15.80.
Noam Sokolovsky (East Lyme, CT/East Lyme) added the final two points when he finished seventh in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.89. He was closely followed by
Connor Kerr (Tioga, PA/Williamson) and
Reign Peterson (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY/Hastings) as the pair finished 13
th and 14
th, respectively with times of 53.67 and 53.81.
Chu neared another scoring position as he clocked a time of 11.44 in the 100-meter dash, finishing ninth.
Steven Jackson (Culpeper, VA/Eastern View) ran an 11.47 to finish 11
th in the race.
Kenneth Berlin (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) was the final Saxon near a scoring outing as he continues to push his personal best mark forward, throwing a PR of more than five feet in the javelin. Berlin's previous mark was 38.33m (125'9") and threw a 39.94m (131'0") mark on Saturday to finish ninth, just two feet short of scoring a team point.
Other notable performances occurred on the track as
George Mecca (Derby, NY/Eden) ran a 59.92 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish 10
th.
John Wendt (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter) and Sokolovsky were 13
th and 17
th in the 200-meter dash, respectively with times of 23.45 and 23.53.
The Saxons will next compete in the two-day, Empire 8 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by neighboring Houghton College on Friday and Saturday, May 6 and May 7.
