Peters Wins Three Times in Saxons' Outdoor Track & Field Debut

ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University men's track & field team posted multiple first place finishes as the Saxons got a strong start to the outdoor portion of their season, competing at Roberts Wesleyan College's Redhawk Invitational on Thursday.

Neil Peters (The Bronx, NY/DeWitt Clinton) led the way for AU with three first place finishes. First, he ran anchor on the 4x100-meter relay, teaming with John Wendt (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter), Noam Sokolovsky (East Lyme, CT/East Lyme) and Papa Dioum (New York, NY/Frederick Douglas Academy). The team ran a 44.51, edging out Roberts Wesleyan's team and its time of 45.21. The finish is just over two seconds short of the Alfred University school record of 42.39, set in 1995.

Peters picked up two individual wins as he ran an 11.24 in the 100-meter dash and a 22.89 in the 200-meter dash. Dioum followed Peters in the 100 with a fifth place time of 11.64. Wendt was right behind Dioum with a time of 11.78 for seventh place.

"Our men had a great day as we begin our outdoor schedule," Head Coach Dr. Angie Taylor said. "The sprinters really made an impact early with the 4x100, the 100 and 200. That being said, our distance, mid-distance and throwers all had great performances and we're very excited for what's to come later in the season."

Wendt and Sokolovsky followed Peters in the 200-meters with times of 24.32 and 24.48, respectively earning sixth and seventh place.

Max Rasilla (Moraga, CA/Midland) and Kevin Flint (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford) finished third and fourth in the 1,500-meter run, finishing with times of 4:38.20 and 4:53.68. Sokolovsky ran a 54.05 in the 400-meters to take sixth place. Jackson Trimboli (Arkport, NY/Arkport Central) ran a 1:10.47 in the 400-meter hurdles to take third. Kalum Holbrook (Atlanta, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) and Nathaniel Marrero (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley) rounded out the top finishes as Holbrook jumped 5.48m in the long jump on his second attempt to take seventh and Marrero reached 4.28m on his fourth and final attempt for ninth place.

The Saxons will next compete at SUNY Geneseo on Saturday, April 2.
