UTICA, NY – The Alfred University women's track & field team finished fifth out of seven teams competing in the Empire 8 Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Utica University.
Madison Palmer (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) led the way with her second third place finish of the meet as she threw 14.50m in the weight throw. She scored 12 of the Saxons' 18 team points as they defeated Russell Sage College and Hartwick College.
Olivia Gilbert (Ontario, NY/Wayne Central) had the only other scoring finish in individual events on Saturday as she ran a 2:27.68 in the 800-meter run to finish sixth.
The 4x400-meter relay team of
Ashley Page (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton), Gilbert,
Morgan Brothers (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) and
McKenzie Hall (Hornell, NY/Hornell) finished sixth with a time of 4:23.84, just short of the fifth place time of 4:22.29, ran by Russell Sage College.
"We competed strong to finish the meet," Head Coach
Dr. Angie Taylor said. "Madison threw well the entire weekend and now we will turn our attention to regionals and then to the outdoor season."
The Saxons will next send Palmer to the All-Atlantic Regional Track & Field Conference Indoor Championships hosted by Nazareth College on Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 5 as she will compete in both the shot put and weight throw.
