Day One of E8 Indoor Championships in the Books as Saxons Sit in Fifth Place

UTICA, NY – The Alfred University women's track & field team completed day one of the Empire 8 Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday evening in fifth place out of the seven teams competing at Utica University.

The top finish for the Saxons was Madison Palmer (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) in the shot put as she rebroke her own school record that she broke earlier this season. She defeated her previous top mark of 12.00m with a new toss of 12.06m as she finished third in the meet.

"We're proud with the showing of our women today and we are excited to get back to the meet tomorrow," Head Coach Dr. Angie Taylor said. "Madison had a great first day and we can't wait to see what she does in the weight throw. Our DMR team set the bar high as well for everyone competing on Saturday as well."

The distance medley relay team of Olivia Gilbert (Ontario, NY/Wayne), Olivia Chamberlin (Holland, NY/Holland), Sarah Lutkins (Union Springs, NY/Union Springs) and McKenzie Hall (Hornell, NY/Hornell) edged out Utica's team by just over a second to take fourth place with a time of 14:08.85.

The Saxons will next finish the championships on Saturday.
